Wright's Forest

This 161 hectare nature reserve is bordered by the Puffing Billy tourist railway and features walking tracks through native forests

Puffing Billy

A century-old steam train which runs on its original scenic mountain track through lush fern gullies, forests and farmland between Belgrave and Gembrook. The train passes through the middle of Cockatoo a number of times a day. It can be seen from McBride Street and many other places throughout the town.

Eastern Dandenongs Walking Trail

This 15km trail goes from Clematis to Gembrook passing through Emerald, Emerald Lakes, Wrights Forest, Cockatoo & Gembrook.  A very scenic undulating walk you will experience eucalypt forest, views of the ranges, the botanic gardens around Emerald Lake and cross the Puffing Billy line a number of times.  There are plenty of places to stop for refreshments in Cockatoo on McBride Street and in berry season you can drop in on Fielderberry Farm for ice cream, coffee and berry picking.  On the McBride St you are spoilt for choice with Brunch on McBride, Cockatoo Bakery, Chieftans Smokehouse, Peter’s Fish & Chips and the Golden Spoon all offering amazing local produce.  Public Transport and parking are available at both ends of the trail so you can plan to park at one end and catch the bus back!  The trail is perfect for hybrid and mountain bikes. There are a range of bed & breakfast options as well if you want to make a holiday of it.
